Documentary family photography

Amongst the hustle and bustle of our daily lives, we often fail to recognise the beauty in ordinary moments. Documentary family photography aims to change that by capturing daily life and preserving it for the future.Documentary family photography is ideal for the various stages of a family:

• Engagement

• Birth

• Newborn

• Family

• End of life

What is documentary family photography?

Unlike traditional posed or staged photography, documentary family photography focusses on documenting what naturally unfolds in front of the camera. No prompts or direction are given; instead, the goal is to capture the authentic reality of the moment. I always aim to capture you at your best, by using angles, natural light and composition.

My sessions last four hours, allowing everyone (kids especially) to get comfortable with me being at your dinner table with a camera. From sleepy Saturday morning cartoons on the couch to the chaos of breakfast battles, from serene walks in the park to quiet moments of parents enjoying a glass of wine after bedtime, every moment is deemed fascinating and beautiful.

Why documentary family photography?

The true value of this genre lies in it's ability to preserve the present for future generations. By capturing the genuine moments of today, we create a tangible link to the past. These photographs serve as a window into your lives, enabling you to reflect on cherished memories and pass down a visual legacy to your loved ones.

Where?

Wherever you are!

Activities could include getting ready for, doing and coming home from:

• At home

• Beach fun

• Family reunion

• BBQ or picnic in the park

• Fishing on the boat

• At the batch

• Tramp or bushwalk in the forest

How long is a documentary family photography session?

I offer two different sessions:

1 hour

Designed to get a taste for documentary family photography. I can capture a small snippet of your daily life at home or doing one activity.

4 hours

A half day spent together. More time allows everyone to get into the groove of having me around. This results in super authentic photos and a true document of you as a family. I can capture time at home getting ready, playing, eating plus one or two outdoor activities.
